Heterotopia – Michel Foucault

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

“These are spaces of otherness, which are neither here nor there, that are simultaneously physical and mental, such as the space of a phone call or the moment when you see yourself in the mirror.”
- wikipedia Heterotopia (space)

heterotopia The border is a space made to separate and to filter the movement between ones’ space to the others’ space. But the in-between space is not a vacuum, it is full of images, transnational, or transcultural objects. The border space -watched and not free of access- is a continuous series of snapshots showing the changes on each side of the border in a more obvious, direct and less mixed way.
While producing your maps and images of the border think of the term heterotopia. Which elements have left the others?
